About This Guide
A free study resource for anyone preparing to drive on Irish roads
What Is This App?
This is a free, open-source web app built to help learner drivers in Ireland study and recognise the road signs they will encounter every day on Irish roads. Whether you are preparing for your first driving lesson, getting ready for your driving test, or simply want to refresh your knowledge of the rules of the road, this guide has you covered.
The app covers 140 road signs used across Ireland, organised into clear categories, along with 32 rules-of-the-road questions covering junctions, overtaking, right of way, pedestrian crossings, motorway driving, and more.
Who Is This For?
- Learner permit holders preparing for driving lessons and the practical driving test
- Accompanying drivers who want to brush up on road sign knowledge before supervising a learner
- Newly qualified drivers looking to reinforce their understanding of road signs and rules
- Anyone studying the Rules of the Road booklet published by the RSA
- Driving instructors who want a quick visual reference tool for their students
Driving Test Preparation, Not Theory Test Software
Important: This app is a study and learning tool for road sign recognition and rules of the road. It is
not a simulation of the official RSA Driver Theory Test and does not contain the actual theory test question bank. For official theory test preparation, visit
rsa.ie or use the official DTT practice tool.
Knowing your road signs inside out is essential for both the driver theory test and the practical driving test. During your practical test, the examiner expects you to recognise, understand, and respond correctly to every road sign you encounter. This app helps you build that knowledge so you can drive confidently and safely.

How Road Signs Appear on Your Driving Test
During the practical driving test in Ireland, the examiner will assess whether you can:
- Recognise and obey regulatory signs (speed limits, stop signs, yield signs)
- Respond correctly to warning signs (slowing down for bends, junctions ahead)
- Navigate road markings properly (lane positioning, overtaking rules, box junctions)
- Follow temporary roadworks signs and adjust your driving accordingly
Building strong sign recognition through regular study means fewer surprises on test day and safer driving for years to come.
